There was another local boating fatality last night. This time about 6 miles across the sound from the Fourth of July accident. This happend in Stamford CT. Apparently a boat with five or six people onboard struck the stone jetty while exiting Stamford Harbor. They are still looking for the driver but all of the others were picked from the water. This isn't the first fatality from a boat hitting the same jetty. It's a wide inlet & large commercial traffic uses it occasionally. The problem is that both sides of the jetty must be 1/2 mile long. The opening is clearly marked with red & green flashng markers. I'll get a link up later today of feel free to post if you see one
Police are reporting that "alcohol may have played a part in the accident". The first think I thought of was that they were there fairly late at night & that they must have been at the Crab Shell where they have a dockside restaurant/bar with music Thurs-Sunday. Just heard that they recovered the body of the 30 year old operator this afternoon.
There are two entrances. The eastern is the more popular. Coming out, the speed limit is (legal) 5mph until you are thru the breakwater. How does he have enough (legal) speed to hit the inside of the wall and do so much damage? I'd be interested in more facts.
