    Hi all,

We're a couple of 30 year olds who have embarked on trying to travel from the UK to Australia without flying. We've made it to India and we were hoping to continue our journey to the Andamans by ferry and then crew on a yacht from the Andamans to Thailand some time in the next couple of months.

We've heard that as it's Monsoon and cyclone season there won't be any yacht/diveboat traffic between the Andamans and Thailand until around November (by which time our Indian visa and probably our energy will have expired!).

Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the case?

    Thank you

    yachts in andamans

hi, the seas get pretty choppy this time of the year here. Am from the andamans. Umm not too sure about available charters though, they'd have to be arranged through thailand itself...maybe if one of their boats are binging tourists and dropping them off here or chennai or someplace then they could pick you up for the return journey...not too sure how this works exactly. But to my knowledge no charters are available originating from the andaman islands to thailand.
    all the best.

    hi,

    a couple of points ...

    1. it's approx. 1,000 nm from andamans to phuket, thailand. so either a sailboat or a motor yacht with long range tanks are the only vessels that will do this journey. i looked at doing this run with a friend on his yacht, but was put off by the sheer amount of paperwork required to land at andamans.

    2. access to andamans is controlled by the govt of india ... there is an issue of sensitivity for various (security) reasons.

    3. the monsoon activity WILL make this region extremely dangerous. it will not be advisable for pleasure craft to be in these waters till around november.

    my $0.02 for what it's worth ...
