Time to consult the expert advice available on this forum. I received shipment of a Manson plow anchor (stainless 60#) for one of the boats I maintain. The width of the shank at the bore where the shackle will attach is 1 1/4".
I am having trouble locating a source for a stainless shackle that will fit without fitting a shackle so big that it is aesthetically not acceptable. Any ideas on sourcing such hardware? This assembly also requires a swivel, and I would appreciate recommendation on design as I have read about failure and sub standard materials. Also, any experience with stainless short length spliced to the galvanized chain. Owner would like to have all stainless on deck showing.

This forum is a very useful and well run resource...Thank You!!

If you really want a swivel, the the Kong is the way to go. I cheaped out a few years ago and used a Suncor... Cost us a 110 claw...

I don't use a swivel...all chain with a 176lbs claw, no issues and I anchor out a lot! As to adding some SS chain There are special links you can get to link chain but why add a weak link to a fairly critical system?

Having a shackle between the anchor and swivel may not look good to you but it's not a bad thing to have. It. An keep the swivel from binding up on the anchor a the boat swings.

Gentlemen, please accept my apologies for dropping the ball, or shackle as it were. I found a Suncor shackle and with a bit of machining, fit nicely over the anchor, with enough room for a swivel from the same mfr. The shackle bolt was tack welded. Along with the 3/8" stainless chain, made a nice compliment to the bow, without being disproportionate. This boat will most likely not use the anchor, as she is used as a day boat.
