I have a 38' Chris Craft Continental with a through the hull bow anchor. My problem is one of the wires to the front nav light is broken below the surface, it's a long sad story, and I can't find how to gain access to the light area to splice new wire. I've contacted Chris Craft and they have responded to my inquiry but as of yet nothing of any help. My question is does anyone know how to get a wiring schematic of the boat to at least see which side the wires are running? Or any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, If you can access the rear of the lght just run a new wire or two ( I say 2 because I am not sure where your negative goes) Small wires like this can easily be hidden by some tape or wall covering if you can't get them in the original conduit.
DK your boat, but if it's at the fore peak you should be able to access it through your chain locker. That may need to be accessed from behind the V-birth (often there is a mirror covering it. You can also run a wire pull down where the old wire is until you hear it touching an interior wall. Good chance you'll find the wires there.
The chain locker stops and the fore peak is above it and not reachable. The fellow from Chris Craft told me he had no clue how to get a wiring layout and to drill a hole and cover it up with an access panel which I may end up doing but I'm not sure I can reach the wire to splice another one on it without drilling a 3 to 4" hole which is not very appealing.
Can you post any pics of the situation? Have you tried to run a wire pull down from the deck to see where it might find access for you?
I plan on taking a small snake I have at home to try that. At least maybe I can hear which side they are traveling. It's a weird situtation and I'm sure I'm not doing a very good job of describing it. I'll post some pics next week if I can't figure anything out. It just seems like a design flaw to put a light somewhere you don't have access. But I love the boat so if this is the worst flaw I find in it I'll be happy. Thanks
Doesn't seem to make much sense. The deck was laid in place, then the wires were fished through originally and the electricians didn't lay them in the fiberglass mold. Somewhere along the line there is access. Worse come to worse you could always connect new wires to the old one that's still grabable at the back end and pull them, but it might get tricky if they're bundled anywhere.
