A little while ago I came across this very cool program.

    Stellarium

Basically, you can open the program, input your current location and it will present an annotated view of the sky!

Given that so many of our members are lucky enough to spend time at sea, well away from urban centres and all the pollution they entail, I thought this might be interesting to share. After all, anyone who's ever spent time at sea has probably, at one point or another, looked up in awe and probably given at least some consideration to seamen of the past that navigated the planet by nothing other than the stars overhead.

I used to be a State Section Director and Field Investigator for the Mutual UFO Network. Since a large number of UFO reports turn out to be misidentified celestial bodies I needed astronomy software to help with investigations. I used this and still have a current version on my computer:

I've never used Stellarium but Starry Nights is great.
