A couple of my buddies and I rented a small boat for the day at Pier 66 and cruised around Fort Lauderdale. We started out going South past the port, got a few long distance shots of Phoenix 2 that I had spotted from my hotel the evening before, also a transport ship unloading yachts and spotted Tatoosh. Then we headed east up the canal that has allot of the big yacht ship yards on the south side of the airport, we continued east until we kind of ran in to a dead end at US 441 where we found some derelict boats. we took the canal to the north between what I think are two power plants and under the 595 to the new river, this stretch was very quiet and scenic. we then turned west to check out the boat yards and then turned around and headed back in to Fort Lauderdale, stopping for lunch in the downtown area. we continued to the ICW and turned north and went as far as the Oakland park bridge before turning around to head south again. when we got back to pier 66 we still had an hour left on the rental so we ducked out the pass for a few minutes but it was too rough for the little rented 16 footer and we came back in after just a few minutes .

It was a great way to spend a day and I got some really great shots of lots of yachts, Enjoy

The photos are in order along our route.

Excellent photos and a good selection, thanks.

Photo # 8 from the top: Perhaps it is the angle, but that boat does not look very seaworthy to me...Tall and top-heavy..

Is a boat like that designed for Coastal Crusing only, OR is she rated for passage making year around..? Across the Atlantic in November?
