Anyone have any experience with mid 90's DDEC's? Looking at a boat to purchase but have heard some of the electronic components are tough to get??
I don't think you should have a problem getting electrical stuff. Most of the DDEC stuff transfers from one size to the other. The newer MTU's also utilize a lot of the same stuff......but check with others as I haven't needed much in the way of electronics for them......the electrical side is pretty good.
Tough to get on a budget. Let e-bay or area swap-meets be your friend and stock spares. It's hard when a failure happens and the nearest part seems to be made of gold. ,rc
I have circa 1994 12v92 DDEC's. Sturdy Marine is the OEM for the DDEC stuff and they are still in business. While there is not much stock left of original complete replacement parts, I have had good luck sending them a few parts and they rebuild them quickly and send back. They did my trolling valve actuators in 3 days. And as others have noted, you'll be surprised what you can find on E-Bay. If you are not scared off by the fuel burn rate I certainly wouldnt be worried about DDEC parts
And if it helps, there is a great Detriot DDEC guy working in your area named Bruce McConnell who runs McConnell Marine. He is an ex-DD factory tech. He worked on my boat when I bought it in Newport before I brought it to Alaska. I was very happy with his services.
Sturdy is the current manufacturer of the Caterpillar and MTU controls among other things and they do make quality parts.
