    Hello all,

My vertical lifting companionway hatch going into the salon leaks. I believe it is leaking in the piano hinge as there is some weather striping where the hinge is screwed to the wood. Is there anything that can be done about the piano hinge leaking?

We currently have 2 bimini's (FB and aft deck) so there is no cover over the hatch itself. I would hate to remove the entire hinge as that would seem to be a nightmare to replace with as many screws are in the wood. Any suggestions are appreciated.

That weatherstripping has been in place and that hinge moving for nearly 30 years. No short cuts here, but not a big job. You can use a power driver to remove the screws, but I'd recommend using a hand driver when putting it back on. You may find some of the holes are stripped from normal wear and tear. Address that when you put the hinge back on.
