New poster here but lurkin for a bit. Thank you to all the experienced salts. Interested in a VZ 56 fly due to layout n design. Not much info out here?? Haha, are there not many vessels this side of the ATL or is it an avoided brand?? Im an old diesel tech from yrs back, I currently build 42 BW Outrage boats n not too afraid of MAN V10s in a VZ. I prefer mechanical engines.
Im open to any n all experienced input/replies please.
Especially Interested in mechanical issues, structural and typical airdraft of such a vessel? Assuming 17-19'. Thanks n Merry Christmas

Neither an owner nor an operator myself, but I carefully inspected a few VZ boats, which used to be a very respected builder here in Italy.
And I'm saying "used to be" because, sadly, they are one of several small builders who couldn't stand the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis.
Anyhow, their boats were well designed and built to high standards, and I can only praise them, generally speaking.
The main caveat is that they used to offer a very high degree of customization, so you might like or not two different boats of the same model, depending on what the first owner requested.

I'm not sure about their airdraft, sorry. But careful about the model/size, because if the boat you are considering is MAN V10 powered, she's not a VZ 56, but a larger model, called VZ 18, which is actually a 64' boat.
I'm saying this because the VZ 56 has always been powered by MAN inline 6 engines, while the V10 were always used for the VZ 18.
And since you mention your preference for mechanical engines, beware: the yard adopted different versions of MAN V10 engines throughout the production run. The mechanical 820hp were used for the earlier builds, but they moved to the semi-electronic 1050hp as soon as the V10 block was available in this higher rating, and possibly adopted also the fully electronic common rail 1100hp in the last years of production - though I'm not positive about this, by heart.

BTW, I'm not surprised to read that you associate the V10 engines to the VZ 56, because this is a mistake we already discussed in another thread, while commenting a NautiStyles video based on what that couple of youtubers call a VZ 56 but is actually a VZ 18.
Just check out the following previous thread, from my post #18 onward:

PS: Welcome to the asylum, and Merry Xmas also to you - as well as anyone else!

Right on, much appreciated. I should have shared that......It is in fact THAT vessel & their review haha. I figured something was off about info (fairly typical). Many other brokers just compound it even further with incorrect info.
It is the 2001 VZ18 w the 820 V10s. I apologize for not seeing it in other thread, I used the search function to no avail. Ill get the hang of this site the more I use it of course, appreciate the link.
It does appear all mechanical Bosch inj pumps if i were to guess based on limited views. Understood about custom products, Ive come across others with different layouts. I will do most work myself as possible, basically interested in sound hull construction, plumbing and electrical integrity.
I cant really get a decent air draft for hardly any vessel close to her either haha. Im thinkin between 17-19' or 5.5-6.5M? I may be able to make the existing tower convertible, idk, I need to walk & inspect it of course. I see the water draft is listed at 4.5' n feel thats probably legit.
I plan to use it as a 6 month live a aboard for travel thru Bahamas, Florida - St Lawrence river, Cayuga/Seneca Lake(if it fits air draft) and possible great lake tour occasionally. Thanks again & go easy :)

If you are sure that she has the 820hp V10 (aka D2840LE401), your guess is correct.

As Mapis says VZ from Venice (the real one in Italy) was a very respected builders.
VZ closed shop in 2012, Vizianello sold to a group of investors in 2008. In 2018 the VZ name resurfaced, I heard since then that they have some projects but none (five years later) have come to life.
The VZ 18, first unit launched in 1993 was one of the first hits of the Nuvolari Studio, and there a high demand in Italy, as Vizianello could build only two of them a year up to 2002.
I think she was the best eighteen meter motor yacht when it was presented.

Yes unfortunately that Nautistyle video made a mess of the model, calling it the 56 which was the 16 model, called the 56 in 2006 when VZ changed name from meters to feet.
The 18 was replaced by the 64 in 2006, this is not an acronym change as the 18 was going to be called the 62, but I think they produced one with that name.

good deal, appreciate the consideration & feedback. Just from curiosity, any idea what the original $$ would have been in 2001?

Off my head as I was working out in selling a new one in the Genoa boat show of October 2000, with the dealer for Liguria.
The VZ 18 costed 1.4 million EUROs ex Vat with Man 1050hp, water-maker, 2 gen-sets a 17kw Kohler and a 6kw, Applliances, bow thruster, hydraulic passarelle etc.
It opened a trip in memory lane, lolz as they could not build more then two and I lost that sale.
Nice boat, I think she was the best in her class for about a decade.
