45 Viking salon lights

    Just bought a 1990 45 Viking, and can't get the salon lights to work. They have power, but can't get them working. They are Lightolier with swivel heads and a twist lock base. I cant find them on Lightolier's website, so i doubt they are still made. Anyone else run into this problem, and how did you fix them?:confused:

    I would ask a marine electronics professional to have a look and provide suggestions.

    I have Vimar switches and salon lighting from DRSA.COM

    I really like them.

    If you have no luck salvaging your current system, you can look at DRSA. It's nice quality.

    Have you tried new bulbs? Sometimes the g4 bulbs all burn out at the same time with a power surge......be careful not to touch them with your fingers.

    And it could be as easy as replacing the bulbs.

    My experience with a 6 yr older Bertram was "fragile electrical system" due to years of mediocre maintenance.

    After replacing most of the receptacles, lots of GFI's, many switches, the input breakers, adding a second 50A subpanel, replacing batteries, alternators, some of the battery wiring ... Fixing any saltwater leaks that contributed to some of this, my system is stable. I have done a small amount of this myself but the good news is that I understand what was done for the most part. There are fewer surprises than there used to be! The professional work I have had done is excellent.

    thanks for the replies... I replaced bulbs- I wish it were that simple! I think it might be in the twist and lock connection- there are 'tracks' in either side of the slot that the twist lock sets into- if I wiggle it just right, I can get it to work for a brief instant, just can't seem to find the mystical sweet spot (it it really exists)...

    That's a short (probably minor). Forget looking for the sweet spot. Fix or replace.

    I agree, just replace. If you do find the sweet spot and they work, the next you hit a wave, they're not going to work.
