Looking at 91 Carver 38 aft cabin with twin cummings need cruise settings and fuel usage, along with speeds thanks for the help planning on the loop. uke
The 37 aft (believe it was a 1987) w/ Cummins gas cruised at between 14 & 17 kts. depending on circumstances. Don't remember the RPM's What I can tell you is that 111 nm brought us in on fumes. On a trip from Long Island to Miami, the only times we had worries about enough fuel were on the legs from Fire Island to Atlantic City and from Coinjock to Beaufort, N.C. Otherwise, every full cruising day involved a mid-day fuel stop. If more specific info doesn't come along I'll dig out my logs from that trip later. For the trip back north I suggested that the owner install a 3rd fuel tank. One of many suggestion he didn't follow.
Had a senior moment. Saw Cummins and my mind saw Crusader wich is what the 37 had. Sorry. Pop a couple of words into the SEARCH key. Something close to this has probably been discussed. Maybe under Cummins or Carver.
I have old style Cummins 6bta 250 HP in a 37 Tollycraft, 22000 lbs. I get 1 nm/g at 15 kts and 2.3 nm/g at 8.5 kts.
Specs for my 355 ACMY I cruise my Carver '98 355 ACMY with twin 5.9 Cummins at really only two speeds. At 2300 rpm I get 19 kts and slightly less than 1 mpg. At 1300 rpm I get 8.3 kts and 1.7 mpg. Single engine at 1300 rpm I get 7.1 kts and 2.9 mpg. If you decide to operate single engine check with the tranny manufacturer about the effects of a free wheeling tranny. I called ZF Hurst and they suggested I swap engines every 30 minutes even though the manual said it was OK to free wheel forever. I don't block my shaft when operating in the ICW, too dangerous.
