    Owner says he gets 1.6 mpg at 8.5 knots?

    I had an ‘89 55’ on inland waters. Unstablized, felt it was a bit rolly, top-heavy. Otherwise, it was a solid boat with no issues that weren’t attributable to anything but age. Your fuel usage seems right, I had 8v92s. These were built by Gulfstar in Florida, which was acquired by Viking. Sold mine to an owner who took her to the west coast of Fla. He sold it a couple of years later, but I think that was for reasons unrelated to the boat.

    I ran a couple of these Viking MYs on deliveries, pretty good boat. If you run in open waters they can use stabs like any if these small flush decks.

    8.5 kts may yield 1.6 NMPG, just, but that may be too low to keep the engines at a happy temperature. 9.3/9.4 kts is best and they should burn 9-10 gph

    not sure if the bottom was balsa cored but i suspect it is since Lazzara usually cored their hulls. If so a good survey is critical although they were pretty good at leaving solid glass areas around hull penetrations, at least on their later boats

    speaking of which, Viking didn’t buy Gulfstar. Gulfstar in Tampa was owned by the Lazzara family and were contracted by Viking to build their line of MYs in the late 80s. By the mid 90s, Viking turned to Princess in the UK to build their MYs and Lazzara started building MYs under their own name up to around 2013 when they went under
