Doing a survey on a 1981 Post 42 on Tuesday. I'm really excited about this boat. It has the 671 Ti 450hp and full tower. The best thing is I think the wife is way more stoked about it. If things go as planned we will close on the 12th and have it in its new slip before the end of the month. Stand by for questions

Unfortunately the old girl showed her age during the survey and we had to pass. We are looking at another 42 a year newer.

You may find that they all have similar issues. Fuel tanks are a weak point. Wet/compromised foredeck core, wing panels, trailing edge of the FB deck. No holding tank is another typical finding.

I was finding growing difficulty in finding mechanics familiar with old Detroit's.

Is that having problems with cheap DDC mechanics, DDC mechanics not scheduled out 6-8 weeks (or more) or any DDC mechanic?

I had a GREAT independent who only worked on Detroit's that moved 3 hours north and then grouped jobs down here so typically 2 weeks out. After selling was looking at larger one in Ma. also with Detroit's but while trying to find and line up a Detroit guy to survey, a local scooped her up. Two surveyors up there named the same Detroit guy but neither they nor I were able to even contact him. Sadly it appears their a dying breed.

    Don't just give up.
I have a Cat guy that surveys DDC. He is not the go to guy for DDC work.
Hard to explain but trust me.

Lots of guys don't want to do surveys. They can make more money turning a wrench.

One nice (impatient) owner in Jax hired a guy from out of town thru F-Book. Now the shop he could not wait for, are on schedule rebuilding the engines.

Your guy groups jobs out 2 weeks out, Dam good.

Ya get what I'm trying to say?

Ask YF when you need a DDC tech.
No reply and not in a hurry, Call me.
