I am looking for informatiion about Cheoy Lee 66, which i am in discussion for buying in Spain. The model is 1978 and engine (Gardner 8XLB) have been changed with now only 900 hours since new. Thanks for your help about: -layout (interior) of the ship type, -experiences about costs of navigation (fuel, oil,...) at 9 knots -costs of maintenance -important points to check before buying. Best regards and sorry for my poor english...
The CL 66 LRC's can be great boats - lots of boat for the buck. They can also be money pits. A thorough surveyor is critical. Biggest problematic factor is water intrusion: water can leak at the windows and be retained in the hull; keel can wick water - when hauled out, see if water starts dripping from the keel; teak decks are a perpetual problem unless they have been replaced with subdeck repaired/replaced; upper deck another area that retains water; check for sagging in salon from weight of upper deck. The rest is what you would normally check on a more than 30 year old built in Hong Kong fiberglass trawler. If a CL66 has been well maintained and upgraded, can be a comfortable and roomy long-range cruiser. Judy
The 66' LRCs in US documentation vary between 50 to 60 gt. The difference is due to layout and enclosed space. Are you asking for gross tons or the weight of the boat,? There is a difference.
I believe the 50-60 figure you mention is GRT rather than GT which is usually about double GRT in these type vessels.
