It is currently in port in Falmouth, UK. I was looking at it through binoculars and the crew had jackets with "The Black Pearl" embroidered on them. Have tried googling and can't find it anywhere. Anyone the wiser? Thanks,
It Googles. There is a "Black Pearl" which was/is jointly owned by Volvo Ocean racing and the Disney folks. Ocean racing yacht - I think intended for the Whitbread cup which I think is run by Volvo now. Others will know more. A short firm clip shows a black hull, red bow and enormous single mast.
Hi, What exactly do you call a huge single masted yacht? There was or is a 76 Ft Baltic Yachts Vessel called Black Pearl. Here is a link to it: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?i...he+black+pearl&um=1&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tbs=isch:1
It is S/Y Moonbird that has just been refitted at Pendennis, the Black Pearl jacket is often worn by one of the Pendennis staff who raced on the Pirates of The Caribbean Volvo boat.
Considering I learned to sail on something like this back in the 70's, yes, 76' would be considered "huge"
I've one of those in a shed alongside my garage, and still sail it from time to time... they seem to get smaller as we get older/larger...
They are a blast! It's the one boat I can [still] confidently sail single handed! I've had my eyes open for one for the kids which I'll probably pull the trigger on in the next year or two. Say, maybe a bottle of rum and a few hundred will get that one out of your side yard! Cheers- (sorry for the thread jack, back to your regularly scheduled programming)
