The Nantucket Bucket race. The original Bucket Regatta. I have years of photos from the races, but no scanner at the moment.
Legacy Legacy was still setting anchored in the harbour as of 2 weeks ago when I was last out, with gas prices being what they are, i havn't been out as much. anyways, I didn't get to talk th Mr Helmos, I think I woke him up. I plan to try again, possibly Capt Tom will arrange another interview or something. I think He's doing some research into where best to take her. The salvage tug and crew have left, but I believe Legacy can go under her own power. I do remember that Mr Helmos is now a member of the 10 ton club when it comes to anchoring so I guess he's learned that lesson the hard way. He may still be dealing with the insurance companys as well. The salvage site needs to be cleaned up as well. Doug
Legacy Photos 6-15-08 I was in the Keys last weekend and caught these pictures of S/Y Legacy. According to the locals, M/Y Legacy is currently undergoing a survey prior to being towed to Miami for loading onto a barge then to be returned to the Perini shipyards in Italy for refitting.
Mr. Ryan, Gossip and heresay of a negative nature have no place here at Yachtforums.com. I've edited your post to remove the content in question.
Unfortunately your editing of the previous post didn't affect the email version which I recieved. As you say, heresay and gossip...............
I do apologize no malice was intended. After further review of this thread, I found nothing in my post that was not already said in previous posts of this thread.
Can't wait to see her refitted. I'm also on Nantucket waiting to see which yachts are going to show up in the harbor this summer.
Update on Legacy--- Had an e-mail from the owner a few weeks ago. Says the main engines have been restarted successfully. Bilge pumps working, AC is back on, generators running as well. He wants the yacht to be navigable before it is towed to Miami, just in case there's a problem. Was told it would be on it's way to Miami in early July, and hauled there for an inspection. It's presumed (at least that was planned a while ago) that it will be shipped back to Perini Navi for refurbishment, but that has not been firmed up. Will try to get more in the coming weeks.
Castlerock, My point guy, conchwood, told me this week that Legacy is still anchored in Key West Harbor. Aqua Village may have been disrupted from the storms as it is in a new location and missinga few houseboats. Planning on getting down there after FLIBS. Here's a shot from earlier this year.
Perini Navi's Legacy drops keel More problems for Legacy's recovery : http://www.ibinews.com/ibinews/newsdesk/20090008145337ibinews.html
The keel shouldn't be that much trouble. I'm sure she's not stuck as I can see her swinging on her anchor in Key West Harbor.
Ken, I was in Key West a few weeks ago getting an update for my story. Legacy is not stuck where she is, but with the keel down, Halmos is concerned that if he tried to motor out, he would hit bottom or an obstruction with it and potentially be into another problem. He wants to get the keel up in order to make safe transit to Tampa, where the yacht would be hauled and the keel fixed. The engines are running on Legacy, and Halmos' intention is to run her on her own power. I'm assuming he would have a chase boat run also for safety purposes. UPDATE - Just spoke with Halmos and the keel is up a sufficient height to make safe passage. He has to iron out some paperwork before hand, so you very well might see Legacy leave Key West this month. Stay tuned...
