I like that boarding platform on the Wally 118. But the Wally Island... well, I imagine that will be deserted. Bushes and boats just seem like a bad horticulture experiment. However, it got me thinking... what if you could grow algae onboard, or harvest it from the hull, then convert it to biodiesel? Hhmmm... yeah, that's a little out there. Random thoughts from a warped mind.
Perhaps warped, but not without some merit. Conversion requires movement/motion of the material which is readily available at sea. Availability of the raw material is also not an issue in some seas. Harvesting technology already exists... One could lose sleep over the possibility of making this approach work. Has certain advantages over the algae farms being looked at for development in the desert.
Hoping to catch it on a replay. I'd be interested in seeing the Wally's that I've only read about in print or online.
Makes one wonder whether or not algae could be fermented into something drinkable and perhaps a real standout at St. Patrick's Day events.
