Hello all My marina neighbor is running his boat down to FL for the winter & is looking for a place to keep it somewhere from Stuart/Jupiter to down in Boca or so. He has a 53' Detling (?) which does not have a bridge (low profile) & is a really good looking classic design. The are in their mid/late 50's & are looking for either a marina (a pool and restaurant would be a bonus) or possibly a dock behind a home. They will stay on the boat for one to two weeks a few times but mostly will remain up in the north. They would like to fly into Palm Beach Int. & stay under an hour from the airport. Any ideas? After two winters of my Bertram staying north, I'm completely out of touch
At the risk of getting caught by the Spelling Police, Dave, here is a suggestion or three: Sailfish Marina in Port Salerno (just South of Stuart proper) is a laid-back, friendly place situated right around the corner from the inlet. No pool, but lots of nearby spots to take a saltwater dip. No restaurant, but only a couple of minutes away from a Five Star greasy spoon called the Whistle Stop which I highly recommend. This marina, along with a few others whose names I forget, are located in an area on the charts called Manatee Pocket which deadends at AIA. The Bluffs Marina in Jupiter is a condo setting off the ICW; probably has a pool, and restaurants & supermarket are a bike ride away. Airports are close in both instances. Hope this helps.
Several additional suggestions include Jupiter Yacht Club located on US 1 just south of Indiantown Road. Slips are owned, but there are several that can be leased from the owners. The Bluffs is another Jupiter location just off of U.S. 1. North Palm Beach Marina is also a great spot and North Palm Beach Country club is across the street. Pool, golf, restaurant and walking to many other good restaurants. Twenty minutes to PBI. Old Port Cove is just to the North of North Palm Beach. Sale ownership as North Palm Beach and the South Marina should be ready by the end of the year. (just renovated). Bob Lucas
Hey Old Timer! Long time, no post. Guess you haven’t had much Idall Time lately (all puns intended). Here’s a few links to get started… In North Palm Beach, right off PGA Blvd and close to all the new shopping, restaurants & nightclubs is Old Port Cove Marina… http://www.opch.com/ Across the intracoastal from the above is the North Palm Beach Marina. Same URL… http://www.opch.com/ Just south of the Blue Heron Bridge on Singer Island is Sailfish Marina… http://www.sailfishmarina.com/ Smack on PGA and backing up to Carmine’s restaurant & Noche nightclub is Soverel Marina… http://www.soverelmarina.com/ Pricey and prestigious, with a world class country club & restaurant is Admiral’s Cove. Located just north of Donald Ross in Palm Beach Gardens… http://www.admiralscove.net/ For marinas in Palm Beach Proper (stated with a smug, Thurston Howell accent), I'll let Kenny B. or Rocky chime-in on this thread. Both have experience with the local marinas. Well Actually, Ken has experience in almost every marina!
Watch it... a statement like that could get me in trouble with my fiance! If they are willing to move a little further south, I'm a huge fan of Sunrise Harbor in Ft. Lauderdale. I haven't googled their website but its a Westrec facility
Thanks everyone! I just sent a link to this thread to Dan and Barbie. They are both great & hopefully they become active on the site! Watch it though guys, Barbie can run circles around many seasoned pros when it comes to boat handling David
Dave, Might I suggest that they find what roughly meets their criteria from the cruising guides, maybe narrow the list by speaking with people with experience and like tastes, then fly into PB and spend 2 or 3 days visiting the marinas. While there they can pick up local publications with listings for dockage is residential locations.
Exactly what they are planning on doing. I thought it would be a good idea to get a few suggestions here before they head down. Thanks!
