kinda odd question, but wasn't sure where else to place it. .. im sure there are some people here, that work at mega yacht manufacturer. if you could choose, which US Yacht manufacturer would you want to work for ? and why ? (consider not only the company itself, but also location and costs of living in the area..) thanks
Based on the information out there, the economy is stagnate, and most yards are "reducing production & laying off staff", so that should answer a lot of questions right there. But some Yards like Trinity and others have orders that should keep their staff going for years to come, so obviously that is where one should target his energy.
Trinity and Christensen are both booked and PJ is so booked that they bought a shipyard in Norway and are opening a facility in the South of England. I have seen adds for PJ and Burger in the back of Pro Boat. Things are slow for the smaller builders, but the mega business is good due to the weaker dollar.
Hi, I understand the weaker dollar makes for good business at home in the US but how is it any use for expansion to the UK and Norway the way PJ's have done?
Good question, I had forgotten about Lazarra. And yes, Westport is doing very well too. My point about PJ's expansion was that if they feel the need to expand it may be due to the lack of workforce in this country. At the very least it gives them a European service yard for the yachts that are going over seas.
how about Burger? how are they doing? i know they have a couple of nice projetcs.. and how about living up there ?
I've also seen various ads for Palmer Johnson looking to recruit workers. They just recently expanded their facilities in Sturgeon Bay to accommodate almost twice the production that they used to and seem to be working at full capacity. I was down there today and they seemed quite busy, working on lots of boats. They just launched the latest 150' for sea trials, and it looks like the newest 123' raised pilot house is going to be next in the water. I took a few pictures today that I'll upload later.
