Hi, I am looking for a couple of good looking rigid (not RIBs) tenders for a 130ft motor yacht. Tenders in the 16-19ft size, diesel inboard engine with preference for stern or jet drive. Any suggestions much appreciated. Wanderer
Kelly, The Maril is certainly a lovely looking boat. Do you have any experience with them? Wonder how their sea-keeping qualities may be?
Tender words It all depends on the Mothership. If it is an old classic, then a clinker boat is perfect. 99% of the time a RIB is the best bet. On a 110' we had a Donzi Sweet Sixteen (very sexy) but utterly rubbish as a tender. On the 250' we built our own 30' ally tenders with a 400 mile range for diving. All down to horses for courses, what do you need, get the guests ashore, go shopping, skiing or whatever. Just look at the Mothership and look at the uses. PS. I've got a RIB for sale. Only joking. Wanderer - Sorry, all I know about the Marils is what's shown on their web site. As for seakeeping, well, I don't often see that term applied to boats under 20 foot. Dave may have a point, in that small size I'd think a light RIB or OB fishing boat (example Grady-White) would be most handy in the rough stuff. On this side of The Pond we have a zillion fishing boats to pick through, not so many RIBs. no help Kelly
My sentiments are with you gents regarding RIBS for this size of boat. Unfortunately the person actually paying for the tenders has other ideas! However whilst I do prefer stern drives I am not against jet drives - but that is a different question. So your suggestions are very welcome.
Well, so long as wall-to-wall seating is not required, we do have some attractive OB fishing boats in that size. Our popular sterndrive bowriders (example Sea Ray) would buzz circles around the inboard Maril. And the bowriders have a lot more style and seating than the fishing boats. But the OB fishing boats have the bowriders beat for easy maintenance and for handiness in rough water. Kelly
