Took a cruise (in the car) and spotted a couple of yachts that I was unable to identify. Both of them are absolutely magnificent and I'm not sure how these yachts have slipped by my memory (could be from inhaling once in the 70's!) The first is "White Star"...
I believe this is the old (1980 circa) Feadship "Daria", but the name has probably been changed. Anybody know?
I remember seeing the "Lady Kathryn" back in the 80's, when she was tyhen called "Shango". As I remember, she was built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards, I dont have any more info than that.
OK... this White Star thing was bothering me. Finally tracked it down. It's no surprise that some of us were unfamiliar with it... it was just delivered. Here's some specs... Yes it is Wedge One, ex Daria from 1980. The evolution in twenty years is not impressing when watching the new Wedge Too. One of the ugliest boats afloat, from any angle... While the old Wedge One can be admired from any angle!
No doubt the new Wedge One is different, but that's what makes her beautiful. Certainly not a "cookie-cutter" design, however she does resemble another dessert... a wedding cake! With all that wood... a pre-nup would be mandatory. She would be high maintenance!
Lady Kathryn was built in 1977 by Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong under the name Shango II. Later she was renamed Shango A and when she was sold she got her present name. She can carry 10 guests and a crew of 7. From 1998 till 1999 she got a major refit in Florida. Her are some specifications about her: Lenght: 39.78m (130.5 ft.) Beam: 7.92m (26 ft.) Draught: 3.05m (10 ft.)
