Something new is under construction at Turquoise Yachts. It is a 76.35-meter superyacht known for now as Project 'Arrow'. The design is by Team 4 Design while the interior is by H2 Yacht Design.

Project 'Arrow' has now been moved to outfitting ahead of her 2025 launch and delivery. She is the first hybrid superyacht from Turquoise Yachts.

Not really...Turquoise isn't that big on giving away details on this particular build but i have seen Project Arrow will have the ability to run eco-friendly with a lithium-ion battery bank rated at 1.5 MW. So this should permit the vessel to run silently for an extended period of time (not specified by the yard at this stage). There is also the possibility to use the permanent magnet electric motors for propulsion so in battery mode is top speed of the vessel is around 10-knots.

Project 'Arrow' has been launched and she is now known as "N2H".

A look at "N2H" again. She is the successor to a 49-meter yacht of the same name originally built by Rossi Navi.

“It wasn’t a case of the shipyard pushing hybrid technology as a flagship concept,” said Turquoise head CEO Burak Akgul. “The primary driver was the owner’s specification. That said, the idea of versatility – between diesel-electric and hybrid operation – was already a consideration within Turquoise.” The main diesel engines are by MTU but Turquoise also had MTU do the entire hybrid package rather than having the hybrid component outsourced to another company.

Comprising the bulk of the hybrid propulsion package were components supplied by MTU. That system takes their MTU 1,920 kW diesel engines, gearboxes supplied by ZF Friedrichshafen, electric motors, variable-speed generators with permanent magnet alternators, fixed-pitch propellers, a battery energy storage system, and a DC distribution grid as part of the total unison of the hybrid package. The propulsion concept is a parallel hybrid system, with electric motors mounted directly on the gearbox. This provides multiple operating modes: conventional diesel propulsion, full electric running using either batteries or generators, hybrid assist during acceleration and load transitions, and shore power operation. A ‘boost’ mode — where electric motors supplement diesel output — was deliberately excluded as the additional structural requirements on shaft lines and drivetrain components would not have been justified given the vessel’s intended speed range.

The hybrid system forced Turquoise to have to rearrange alot to accommodate the system. Given this was their first large-scale implementation of hybrid propulsion on one of their superyachts, it was a large learning curve. The electrical architecture was divided into two main zones: an AC system for hotel and auxiliary loads, and a dedicated DC system for hybrid propulsion and energy management. The DC switchboard, originally envisioned at 22-meters, was progressively reduced through iterative redesign to approximately 11.5-meters in overall length.
