Some news from Perini earlier in the month. They seemed to be heavily booked in terms of launchings. There are supposedly 9 launchings within the next 3 years..This speaks volumes for the popularity of Perinis' Ketches and Sloops. They also talked about the current renovation of the Beconcini shipyard in La Speiza. The main attraction i found was this new rendering of a beautiful sloop 'sailing' carrying an ITA flag. For more on that visit the Perini website......http://www.perininavi.it/schedanews.cfm?IDF=114
I am curious : will they (ever) build a two-mast Dynarigger, as shown in a magazine (64 meters).........

New Travel Lift February 4th, 2008: The La Spezia Perini Navi yard at the Canteri Navali Beconcini facility has purchashed a new beefy travel lift. Big, bad and black, the new travel lift had its first 'workload' assigned to it. This was the transfer of the 45M Perini Navi s/y Heritage from the water to the dry in order to facilitate maintenance work. Heritage is: Length overall 148 ft / 45 m Waterline length 121 ft / 36.73 m Beam 32 ft / 9.73 m Draught (keel up) 13 ft / 3.86 m Draught (keel down) 29 ft / 8.71 m The travel lift handled her dimensions well and is a great addition to the La Spezia yard. The beautiful Perini Heritage was in the safe grasp of the new travel lift which straddled her 353 tonne weight. The new travel lift marked a procession of new improvements being done and established at the Beconcini facility. Perini Navi confirmed that two 50M docks have been completed and three sheds are well in the works and will be completed in the coming months. Press Release February 12, 2008: As we well know, yard number C.2095, now known as Salute has been launched by Perini Navi. Here is the press release. *** Perini Navi launches Salute, 56 metre cutter. The new year starts for Perini Navi with the launching of project C.2095, henceforth known as Salute, a 56 metre aluminium cutter created by Perini Navi, worldwide leader in the design and construction of luxury sailing yachts. Sister ship to SY Burrasca, SY Santa Maria, SY Rosehearty and SY Selene, Salute represents the ultimate evolution of the successful 56m-series whose architecture was optimised by Perini Navi in consultation with Ron Holland Design for excellent sailing performance. Salute sports a main difference from her sister ships: she is single mast rigged. Her 75 metre aluminium mast – the tallest aluminium mast in the world – has been designed and engineered by Perini Navi's Mast Division in accordance with the latest trends in mast weight optimisation. The Perini Navi Mast Division developed a new design for masts and shrouds, using Finite Element Analysis, with the aim of building a lighter structure without any compromise in safety. In fact, the designs are approved by the Germanischer Lloyd: which is further verification of the project and a warranty for the Owners. In collaboration with the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Genoa, Perini Navi developed special sensors for tracking the load on shrouds and stays. Although this technology has been used aboard America's Cup Class yachts, this is the first use of the system aboard large cruising yachts. The Perini Navi Mast Division also created new deck equipment and a special winch for the mainsail halyard, the giga-winch, with 2 power drums and 1 rope storage drum. To optimise sailing performance of the powerful Cutter Rig sail plan, Salute has modified keel and rudder lines to improve her stability in keeping with the higher centre of gravity the tall mast produces. The deck layout presents a very tasteful innovation, coming from the earlier Liberty 52-metre ketch: a 60m2 fore cockpit, in addition to the traditional aft cockpit. This area can be easily transformed into a completely enclosed veranda thanks to wraparound lifting glasses and a canvas awning stored around the mast when not in use. The owner commissioned Rémi Tessier to design the interior – his third collaboration with Perini Navi. Japanese style inspirated Rémi’s pen and he has been able to create a warm, luxurious minimalism which is ideal for a yacht dedicated to family and friends. http://www.perininavi.it/schedanews.cfm?IDF=192 http://www.perininavi.it
