    Hi everyone,
I have followed this forum for a while and appreciate the deep knowledge base herein. I'm looking for some advice.
I have to replace the gasket between the fuel tank lid (26"diameter) and the tank itself. Everything is steel. The old gasket, 20 years old, deteriorated to pieces and dust plugging all the filters on the boat. Is nitrile rubber the best replacement material for the gasket?

    Is it gas or diesel?

I made gaskets using rubber gasket sheets and treated both sides with Permatex Permashield (fuel resistant) for my diesel tanks. No leaks, no odor, no problem.

Nitrile or Buna - N is the recommended gasket material in sheet goods for diesel tank applications. I wouldn't use anything else.

My first pass was without the Permatex. Fuel found the fine little grains in the aluminum and escaped. Had to revisit.
