I have gone thru several pages of search on these boats. I am considering a 1999 54 with Detroit series 60's 5112ACT's at 625HP. 1500 TT in fresh water. The boat is older but in pics seems well preserved?

My use would be the 'great loop' and travels in the GOM perhaps down to the Yucatan.

Any insight on the handling qualities in open seas and general. Older avionics and a bow thruster, it is on a land locked lake right now.

    Let the comments begin!

Neptunus builds a good quality boat. I've managed/maintained/run 3 of the 55'ers which is what the 54's morphed into. Detroit series 60's are good motors but MTU is not supporting them as well on the parts side. It would be a good boat for your purpose. Their gelcoat is only so so, but other than that everything is good and they're good sea boats.

What changes were made to the 55? I know the radius door and roof are a bit different, any other major changes?

Regarding the series 60's, there is a lot of support for these in on/off road. Marine parts not so much, I do have a full machine shop. These engines are at the lower end of rated power, is that going to be an issue?

They are solid engines, you can still get parts for them but may need to be ordered, etc. etc.. I do not know the changes. I do know the 55's were a great sea boat. Not sure if I ever ran a 54', I don't remember running one. Call Neptunus with any questions, they're good to deal with and very helpful, they're located in St. Catherines, Canada.
