Offshore Yachts 54-62 Engine Room Size?

I have a 2000 Offshore 62 I'm 5'10" tall and IT IS A WALk IN engine room. Outboard of the engines are a tad tight but just did the turbos and aftercoolers on the 3196's and it was tight but fine. If you are 6'10" and 400 lbs you might not fit. This coming from a guy that had a Bertram 54 with 12V92's that is a tight engine room. The Offshore has great access to both Gensets, water maker, Port Turbo is a two man job but totally doable. Listen to people that have been there and done that not brokers. My only advice add more lights LED's are nice. Early 62's have other short comings but engine room size is not one of them. Look at plumbing, they did not use shut off valves and plastice PEX fittings at 25 years old sucks. Electrical is well designed and done well. Fit and Finish is great. We lived on the boat for a year in Cabo and were very comfortable. Storage is great as well by the way. Great fuel capacity made it down the peninsula no stops and had 350 gallons left when we arrived, genset and AC's running most of the time. For the money they are great cruising boats and the newer ones they have managed to engineer a lot of the Taiwan out of them.

Mine is the Pilothouse version. I would imagine the 54's engine room is smaller than the 62, I think the 54 carries less beam which would make the space smaller. Don't take my word for it I've only been on one 54 when I was shopping for my 62. I will say the 3196's or C12 Cats are perfect for this boat the size and power output make it very economical to run at hull speed. It will plane if you have to but your burn rate goes through the roof for not much speed, this is not an 18 knot boat! The 62's LWL and probably the 58 for that matter gives you almost a 10 knot hull speed which is just great for heading up and down the Baja Peninsula .
