I have always bought used sportfishing boats, but now am about to buy a new 64' Sports Motor Yacht. The boat comes with a 2 year all systems warranty, and a 5 year gold MAN warranty. The selling broker is of course sending me extended warranty info. Has anyone heard of BPP extended marine protection? I have attached their brochure. It's about 13k for most systems other than engines. It's about 2k for a 5 year upholstery coverage. It can be transferred once. So, over 13k worth of stuff would need to break, and be covered, to break even. With used boats, I just paid as stuff broke. With all new stuff, any incite into whether this type of coverage is worth it?
I skimmed the warranty agreement. It is from Brunswick so I assume you are buying a Brunswick boat so some incentive for them to keep you pleased (one would think). You have to bring the boat to an authorized repair facility, they have 30 days to determine whether it is a warrantable item. Those 2 alone would do it for me. I might be the wrong person to ask as I am of the belief that most of time warranties favor the house and not the gambler. I wouldn’t do it for 13,000, any chance you could negotiate it down some?
Good question, I can always ask. I am not one to typically buy extended warranties. It is through One Water Yacht group. With an already pretty good warrant setup, I am inclined to pass.
Hang on, soon enough, thousands of calls will start coming in from another country; It's not to late to buy that engine warranty for your old boat....
