The marina suggested we replace the transom thru-hulls for the cockpit hatch surround drains and the aft bilge pump outlet since they do not have the 'mushroom' on the exterior. They are about 8-10 inches above the waterline. Seems like a good idea but wondering if other Posts have just the flush outlet or have a traditional rounded flange on the outside? Anyone have problems with an original flush outlet coming apart/loose?
I can only figure the idea is to (maybe) reduce any stains on the hull under the the thru hull outlet. If this is not a problem, revert to one of my best boat rules; If it's not broke, don't fix it.
Ours are starting year 36. I'll look them over once it's unwrapped to check from inside but am leaning to leaving if I don't see anything loose or cracking. They must be glued in as there is also no flange, nut or ring on the inside of the transom. Just a straight tube.
