For those who may not have been aware....the SS "United States" left Philadelphia’s Delaware River yesterday, February 19, 2025. It is heading to Mobile, Alabama to be prepared to be sunk as an artificial reef, sad that such a big piece of U.S maritime history could not have been preserved.
Here's one that's a stretch for your imagination: I had a Central Listing on the SS United States! Way back in 1998. I didn't sell her in the first 90 days so the owner (M.C.) cancelled my listing. But he sent me a beautiful framed portrait of her and in my downsizing, I gave it to my maritime attorney when I discovered he was a SS US aficionado.
No worries! Pixel size and file size are different measurements. Resolution plays a big role in file size. We try to keep pics under 800 pixels wide in landscape and 600 pixels wide in portrait. Because bandwidth isn’t as big an issue in recent years we’ve relaxed our guidelines on image sizes.
My knowledge of airplanes and RC is about zero but this is pretty neat. https://va.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_sse89u7u721zgyqwc.mp4
With that much weight above the wing, it looks hugely unstable but getting 12 glow engines dialed in is an even bigger feat.
Sounds too good to be true.. In my distant youth I had heated battles getting one glow plug engine to fire, can’t imagine 12… (Like having 12 wife’s and keep ‘em all happy all the time. Not) Guessing this Dornier flying boat model stayed on and above dry land for preservation of the electronics and the fragile airframe, one dunking would be fatal and not worth the risk.
Still in the "wings" theme... I figure some here will enjoy one of the few thousand pics I took at Miramar last year.
Great pic, Kevin. I'm reminded of the Shell Air & Sea Show in Ft. Lauderdale, circa 2004. We were in a flotilla of boats offshore and could actually see the pilots when they were banking. I'm not sure of the established minimums for the show but it was definitely lower than flying over populated areas. I put on my own air show during the event...
A P-51B Mustang and an F -22 Raptor: Only a few years apart in time, but a huge gap in technology including supersonic stealth, wow.. Where is the rest of your pics?
What always gets me is the massive difference in size between vintage and modern aircraft. Of course it's logical that things change and improve over time, but some modern fighters are just massive. I really ought to put together a simple gallery website, but in the mean time I just post my photos to Instagram - @raceaddict (it's basically just airplanes, racecars, and occasionally my dogs and roadtrips)
This is on the way back from an Air and Sea Show: 2 helicopter mechanics and their girlfriends chartered M/V Odin for the day and we anchored just off the flight operating zone in about 100’ of water. Spectacular stunt flying, beautiful weather and very happy customers. Odin Charters Glacier Bay 2770, May 6th 2017
But they come larger; https://youtube.com/shorts/PdIBcBVsfko?si=yCfr4c0fs-g9Cyd7 Why not just crawl inside and fly it directly?
