The nuts turn to raise/lower the door. I think they would unscrew all the way to separate the door from the captive hardware in the rail but have never turned them that far. The PO who did the engine swap did say they just removed the door and were able to get the old engines out and the new ones in without having to remove the back window. I custom bent a wrench to be able to get behind the valance piece on ours.
