'91 46. I've asked this question a few years back in a post and some people really tried to help but I was not able to come up with anything at the time that would work for me. Just thought I would ask one more time to the group. Anybody know how to save these nav lights? I think they're classy and special for the boat. I don't want to change the fixtures I'm willing to put LEDs inside but I've got to figure out a way to repair or replace these any ideas?
You could go to a fab shop that does aluminum work, they would have the stuff needed to polish the housings.
Sorry brother that I did not have any ideas years ago. Don't remember your post. Shame on me. I'm sure a better plastic shop can make some kind of new lens. Even clear if you use colored LEDs. The alloy looks pretty good enough for cleaning and at the worst; powder coat vs re-anodizing.
You could get them polished or plated. A triple nickel plating gives a somewhat warm hue that I personally really like. Did it with a few of the deck hatches years ago. Came out great. Def rebuild with LED guts.
The housings appear to my eye as chrome plated bronze given the pitting and hue of the interior. They can be polished somewhat, but the best outcome would be to replate them. There are polishes for plastics that can brighten the lenses a bit with a dremmel and polishing wheel. I think that would be my path. LED bulb, but use a brighter bulb than the incandescent rating to ensure visibility range.
Here are the refurbished babies. Polished outside housings with Noxon. New stainless bulb sockets, new led bulbs, new rivet's, new handmade water gaskets and two broken off screws for the stainless socket plates out of eight. Days of heat and Kroll oil soaking to get 6 of 8 out. Lots of labor, but they are back on for another 34 yrs. They look great. Thanks for all of your ideas. The castings were chrome plated, aluminum not bronze.
I won't have a picture for a couple more weeks. They do look great, especially with the new lED bulbs.
