  1. Construction Commences On World's Largest Sailing Catamaran
The world's largest sailing catamaran has started construction. This 57-meter is being built by Echo Yachts and will follow similar catamaran builds like the 56-meter "Charley 2". In essence this build is using a familiar platform and applying Dynarig sailing apparatus to it. Renderings showcase a double masted free-standing dynarig configuration. In total the sail plan of ASC57 will encompass 1,660 square meters. Construction of the vessel itself will be in weight-saving aluminium.
  2. Dykstra Naval Architects has been responsible for the exterior design while Naval Architecture is the work of One2Three. Southern Spars are tasked with manufacturing the Dynarig masts/spars and associated sail systems. Directly inspired by Charley 2, the ASC57 will be more optimized for her sailing role. Additionally she will feature some energy saving and building technology onboard. A regenerative power system is expected to be integrated which will utilize a pair of shaft generators linked to a battery storage system. This ensures peacefully-silent operation while under sail.
  3. With a CPP driveline this permits the operation of the main engines without the need of having additional generators in operation for power. Given that she was designed off Charley 2, the hulls had to be optimized further to enable efficient sailing. The pair of hydrodynamic efficient aluminium hulls should ensure better sailing and cruising characteristics.
  4. Like Charley 2,the new ASC57 will feature helicopter landing capabilities and extensive tender and toy storage. With weight reduction and ease and simplicity of use at the core of her design she will not only represent as the coming world's largest sailing catamaran but one with an environmentally-friendly approach to operations with some of her sustainable and efficient features.
