Hi All, thanks in advance for your feedback. I am weighing up between the Sirena 68 and Magellano 66. I understand the history of Sirena yard previously building the 66 and then developing their own brand. I have obviously heard all the complaints around the Azimut build quality (albeit beautiful finishes) and keen to understand if this same quality flows through to the Magellano brand. We are looking to do long distances along the east coast of Australia. I am leanings towards the Sirena as it seems better suited to long range cruising rather than a med boat for a long weekend. thanks again.
AFAIK Sirena used to build the Magellano 43, and probably did some of the 50s (but this is not confirmed). Then the collaboration was broken. Sirena is more voluminous, Magellano is a better performing yacht. Can't remember range numbers of both, but Magellano 66 has 2 x Man 850hp and 4500 liters capacity weighting 47t with 5.5 meters beam. Sirena is longer and wider 5.9 m weighs 47t (the same) and has twin Volvo 1000hp for 5250 l. These number are all in favor of the Magellano also in performing and in real World might give you about 10%.
Since they weigh the same I would say they are similar. On paper Azimut looks stronger, also because they had thicker GRP to the normal Azimut.
I considered a Magellano but was massively underwhelmed by the space it offers both inside and out. The fly is tiny given the sze of the boat. Sirena in a different league space wise even if I don't particularly like the finish. Hard to put my finger on what exactly it is but I feel it is lacking depth of quality if that makes sense.
Thank you Sarnico! Thats great feedback. Is it that the Sirena 68 felt more “production boat”? I inspected a Magellano 60 (there are no 66s in Aus) and the finishes are very nice but agree, it is built for a day on the med not long range cruising.
"Production boat" is certainly one way to describe it. The Sirena is just a bit bland in comparison and lacking finesse. It tries to look like an italian design but doesn't quite manage. Having said all that, I didn't get out on the water with either of them! So my feedback is soley on looks and perceived quality. If you are not set on shafts only, have you looked at Absolute Navettas? This is what I am now ending up with. Different league to both of them in terms perceived quality.
Thanks for that! I did inspect a Navetta. Your fight, very nice finishes and clever design. I have previously had a pod boat and probably won’t do it again. In saying that, some huge positives but just peace of mind on longer voyages, I would prefer shafts but that’s personal opinion.
