When you say open water, is this just to get out of a “no wake” area? Or are you wanting bigger waves for some reason?[/QUOTE]

To get out of no wake area and be able to do a wide open throttle (WOT) run. The WOT verification is one of the most critical items to check. If the engines won't reach full rated RPM it indicates problems and possible engine overloading.

The seller is old, he's apparently infirm, he's cranky, he's an ass, I don't know - I just get what the broker tells me, and it was very simple. The boat doesn't move out of the slip until the survey work is done. I could not even start the engines after the deposit was taken. These are the rules for this seller, of this boat, on this day, in this country. I could tell them to go pound sand, and take my money elsewhere, or I could be a bit flexible and get with their program.

My sea trial was 1 hour, no less. By the time we get away from the slip, out of no wake, and beyond the busy shore traffic, it's 15 min already. The engine is warmed up and we're in clear area. I do WOT at 360-120-240deg and average out for any current and wind conditions to get the true top speed. This also tells me the engines will perform in an emergency for at least 12-14 min at max thrust. Then we gradually throttle back and check speed at different cruise conditions. After that, we use any or all of the assist features like engine sync, autopilot, GPS course tracking including turns. By then, it's 30 min open water, and back toward the slip. We use all the docking features at the slip to verify full operation of all helm stations, and in this case also the Yacht Controller(nice!) remote.

Hey, can you find me an early Hughes 369? Maybe I'll put a heli platform on the Carver.

Well, it's almost done. We have acceptance from the seller at a reduction price for the survey findings. If it all goes well, I should be an owner by Friday. We're still figuring the tax due.

$300k went out today, I have the wire receipt from the lien holder. They will record the instrument release in 10 days. I do not LIKE this system, but it's what the 'industry' considers ok. Would really like to stand in the bank, and get a bank officer to sign off the lien as I'm handing him a wad of cash.

Balance goes out tomorrow and will close by 5PM. I hope.

I already have a report of one AC not blowing cold. Sigh,,,, and so it begins. Lucky I have gauges and a bottle of juice for the AC. Only hope my fittings will match up to Dometic self-contained unit.

It's MINE. I just got the USCG bill of sale signed by the seller and notarized. We are going aboard Sat morning and setting up for our ownership. I hope the hassles of the purchase do not color my enjoyment of the new boat.

Woof, the pic of the props is on another server. I'll have to download it. The boat looks mostly like every other Carver 56 in great shape. I will take a pic of the engine room tomorrow and upload that. It's fantastic.
