Has everyone received the notice of the Navionics Boating app price increase? I use the US and Canada area and it looks like the price will double later this month. I know there is inflation but 100% increase seems stiff.

No notice but when I try to open the app it wouldn’t without subscribing. Then the only option it gave me was South American charts…

no big deal. For the Bahamas navionics charts are terribly inaccurate anyway, Aquamap is much better over there and just as good here in the us.

    just deleted the app.

    Good Evening Pascal,
Is Aqua Map better than Explore charts for the Bahamas?
    Best,

Are you using this as an app on a tablet? If so I recommend dumping it for Aqua Map, this seems to be the app of choice for all full time cruisers of late.

Remember Navionics is now owned by Garmin, they have grown go be extremely restricted with their products, probably more so than Apple.

I actually use it on my iPhone. It is more for trip planning or convenience than anything else. When I am traveling on the boat I almost always use my chart plotters. Occasionally I will use it to check for any recent chart updates but since my boarding is almost always on northern Lake Michigan and Lake Huron there are rarely any updates that make a difference so my chart plotters are more than adequate.
I think I will take your advice and look into Aqua Map. I assume Aqua Map covers that area. Thanks.
Both my chart plotters are Garmin and if I look at updating I may look elsewhere. Or I may just add a tablet instead. ‍

Thanks for the input. One question. Can Aqua Map subscription be used on more than one device?

If you do update, I highly recommend going to a PC nav system on our boats. I've been running that for a looong time. We can talk about it over lunch one day.

Yes, very reasonable cost and log in from multiple devices.

Thanks again. How are the Canadian charts? I am interested in the North Channel and Georgian Bay.
Also, I see for the new Navionics price the US & Canada charts can be purchased with lifetime updates.

So now, if I understand this thing correctly, when the subscription to Navionics Boating App expires, there is no more old maps, overlay elements and all other advanced things for usage. App effectivly becomes useless untill you extend your subscription.

Gonna have to look at the alternative now for sure. First doubling the annual subscription price and now this lock down of previously paid for maps. Heck I can still use the maps in my no longer updatable Garmin chart plotters.
Planned obsolescence on the chart plotters. But the app is worse if this is true.

It could have been a glitch because I just tried opening the app, logged in using my garmin account and it works fine with existing maps loading.

Makes me wonder if Garmin got the message. I’m not sure but I think the wording on the auto renew/ price increase notice may have changed.

Y F turned me on to OpenCpn a while back for my Win10PCs.
    Works pretty good.

Do any of these newer Aps work on Win10 boxes?

I don't know but was told Win11 will be more Ap driven. Don't know if that is phone/pad compatible.
