The “Margaritaville” icon died Friday, according to a statement on his official website and social media pages. He was 76. The statement reads the singer died "peacefully ... surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs." "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."
R.I.P. Jimmy Buffet, a man I can relate to. (Did a 23andMe DNA test some years ago and they said I was related to Jimmy Buffet. Way Cool)
Whether he was wasting away in Margaritaville or tripping on the Cosmic Muffin… … A life well-lived. ***
Amen.. He was a big fan of sea planes, owned a Grumman Albatross. Aptly named “The Hemisphere Dancer” Where is the Cosmic Muffin these days? It was docked in my neighborhood and next to LMC for many years, sad sight..
He was a huge part of my early professional yachting career (and over the years). Just about every song reminds me of a certain place and the feeling I had at the time. I had just picked up "one Particular Harbor" after arriving in Miami (never forgetting the five star hangover I mistakenly earned out in the Grove the night before departure) but I remember the songs & feeling as I ventured on the yacht down to Key West for the first time. I ended up meeting him at random places over the years but the best was when we went to St. Maarten for a quick vacation with three couples. The night that we got in, we heard he was playing the following night at the Dune Preserve on the beach on Anguilla. We found a guy with a boat (and the right connections) to take us over and circumnavigate customs and the crowds on the way in and out. The best part was walking down the beach after & ended up poolside for drinks then decided on an early dinner at the resort we had stumbled upon. Soon after, Buffet arrived with the whole band. Near the bar, I caught his attention & he said "**** son, I run into you in the most random places". lol. We all had a few drinks & even after being invited to join them, we thought it was best to respect their privacy. When we were leaving, he said "I cant wait to see where the hell I'll bump into you next". Sure enough, I saw him at a private party in Greenwich, CT at an estate on the water and at many other concerts. Such a cool, down to earth guy. What a life from beginning to end. RIP Mr. Buffett
