So Rossi Navi recently launched this 59-meter vessel called "Akula" and instantly I had questions about what it looks like. I think you know where I am going with this.
It raises a couple questions for me. First, it makes me curious about what the IP law is today on yacht design. I know certain hull designs can be patented. I'm not sure about how/if the law addresses the aesthetic of the superstructure. But, I'm even more curious how any yacht today could be built by a European yard, painted in the colors of the Russian flag and named with the anglicized Russian word for shark...and not attract the unwanted attention of the sanctioning agencies.
Could just be a fan of Ginetta automobiles: https://www.ginetta.com/us/our-cars/for-the-road/akula/ Also, white over red is the Polish flag, not the Russian.
AKULA is also shark in Ukrainian... Red and white with orange top are standard color for supply vessel and real ocean going boat. These color are great for high visibility in foggy environment not like the typical white yacht. I read the specs and they are very different from the Damen SeaXplorer
The specs or capabilities aren't what are in question here. It is simply how it looks. At a glance if you weren't paying attention you could easily mistake it for a SeaXplorer.
Each to their own. I hope this bow look is a fad that soon fades away so this new waterway "pollution" ends.
