You can get 300HP diesel outboards.... COX and OXE make them.

    Don't hold your breath, CR.
The last time I checked, the lightest 300hp diesel was 70+% heavier than its petrol competitors.
It's not like you lost track of them, it's rather that they have yet to find any buyers! :)

Yes kids, current diesel engines are heavy and expensive.
There will be technology / cost improvements in the future in the OBs.
    Hull forms will be adjusted.
I'm sure I still will not be able to afford them even then.
However, For the not so cost / investment concerned type people; single fuel on da big boats, these are selling like hot cakes.
Commercial, charter and military are buying them up.
So, The R&D is getting paid for, other mfg's are getting into position, it may be a while but IT IS going to happen.
BFO's* will be diesel and competing with MFI's**soon.
Then, it is going to get better. Just not in my life time....:(

The still real beauty that I learned from my fathers house-boat rental business. It took minutes to replace an outboard power-head dock side.
It was just quicker than trying to troubleshoot a less than obvious issue.
Usually the customer got free champagne and steak while it was done and they continued with an extra day if desired.
It was rare but happened (freaking Mercury stators).

Now, Keep a charter going like that with inboards.

    * Big freaking Outboard
    ** Medium freaking Inboard

I found Yanmar getting heavier into diesel outboards. This may be the red-neck outboard in da swamps.
    Maybe I can afford these.

Gad I luv my friends here on YF. What ya think??

They're actually gaining a little traction on the big fishing catamarans (38'-50') and a few big center consoles I've seen rigged with them. One catamaran (fast center console type) builder is using them excluisively.
