    Greetings,
I'm planning on going to the Miami boat show in February. This is my first trip to Miami and I have been reading up on the city. The one thing I keep hearing about is how bad the traffic is. Do I need a car to get around? I'm going to be staying in south beach and a shuttle goes right by where I'm staying.

    Thanks!
    Todd

    Hardened boat show traveler ??

IMO, save your patience and remember Miami as a pleasant visit.
I recall the main show is back at the ole coliseum.
Use the hotel shuttle and shuttles in/out of the boat show if you can.
If you must get a rental car, ensure you purchase the rental's car insurance, That way you can walk away from any incident.
You do not want to rely on your personal or AmEx insurance to help you in this third/fourth world area.

BTW,, what are you shopping for ??
Fill us in on what you see , thoughts , and may want to purchase.
    Safe travels fer ya..

Of the three major Florida shows, Miami is my least favorite. Traffic is a nightmare, Walking is also difficult due to the amount of construction. If I were looking for a boat, I would go to Palm Beach or FLIBS.

I'm going, and have been going since 2008. The main show is back at the convention center off 17th street. It's easy enough to find a hotel/ air BNB within walking distance, and then you can shuttle from the convention center to the in water shows. I avoid getting a car, because parking is hard and waste of money. Its more convenient to just Uber if you need to go further than walking distance.

I think you've mixed up the Miami show with the Ft. Laud. one, where the convention center is off 17th st. and the inwater boats at Bahia Mar down the beach. Personally I'm done with both of them due to the traffic and I've always gotten first day show "exhibiter" tickets.
