Need to replace a seawater manifold that began leaking due to a crack. Looking for advice on material and source. Thinking I should mount it on the engine room wall instead of having it hang off the pump. Thanks in advance.
This definitely qualifies for the Air Con installer hall of shame . Disaster waiting to happen yes, it s better to install the manifold on a bulkhead or hull side than handing off the pump. i don’t like using metals for air con manifolds because of corrosion. The only metal you should use Is bronze but bronze nipples are hard to find and I ve seen installer using brass instead. They usually fail within a couple of years … you could use schedule 80 PVC (the grey stuff) or nylon / Marelon. I like the body of the manifold to be a larger diameter than the hoses to reduce the chance of shells jamming the inside. We have an issue with small mussels in so fl.
I have a Reverso Y that feeds two dometic air conditioning units. Seems to work well however I don't like where it is located as access to the hose clamps etc. is difficult.
Pascal is right. Rebuild it properly in Sched 80 PVC. Boats don't like metals, especially mixing metals. Build it in Sched 80, oversized, and with individual ball valves on each feed discharge point for servicing. Good opportunity to get it right.
