Is it just me, or was this whole story much ado about nada? It's almost like Bezos (or Oceanco?) wanted the mainstream media publicity storm to brew around a nothingburger.
I don't blame the yard for wanting to step the masts and hook up a myriad number of data connections and actual rigging on home ground, but I'm also sure that some person with a really sharp pencil figured out that it would be cheaper to disassemble the bridge than it would be for the entire boat yard to pick up and go camping down the canal. Probably more than a one six-pack job.
Stepping masts really isn’t a tough job. They would need to bring in cranes like they did with past sailing yachts. Like I said, I have no clue how this came about and if there was ever any fact around it.
Wasn't that big of a deal after all. It looks good with the mast finally on. Excited to see this one in action.
I was hoping it would have the DynaRig mast or similar to SYA but this is nice as well. Reminds me a lot of Eos and a little bit of Athena.
Would have liked that myself as well but from the get go after we first saw the hull we knew it would look a lot like Athena rather than Black Pearl. Noticed from the video that non of the ceiling panels are installed yet, so this yacht might have a couple months before delivery.
In comparison to EOS and Athena, she has a remarkably modest keel. I don't believe I've ever seen Black Pearl on the hard, so I have no idea what kind of keel she has. Purely from a technological standpoint, Y721 is fascinating yacht. Considering who the owner is, it's unlikely many of the sailing characteristics of the yacht will be made publicly available anytime soon, which is too bad.
She is rigged as a 3-mast gaff schooner. A very tradional rigg. But a very good looking and overall well proptioned large sailing yacht. Also I do not like this yard, a very well designed and done yacht, very well done indeed! I am looking forward to see her going under full sails. And all the hipe about the historical bridge is forgotten. They really have underestimated the people of Rotterdam . Just my 2 (Euro) cents
I think, there are no sails in these booms jet. Probably enough other systems to be tested first. I hope, she will have white sails and not that black carbon staff.
