Boat with 17 people on board caught fire and exploded on Saturday at Spring Brook Marina in Seneca, IL. Reported to be at the fuel dock fueling at the time. One dock employee and 13 people sent to hospital and one by helicopter.
According to ABC Chicago, the vessel was apparently having engine problems and went to the marina to refuel. After refueling, those on board tried to restart the engine when there was an explosion. Even more reason to take precaution. 13 of the 17 aboard taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One person airlifted with serious injuries but they don't say who or where he was. One marina employee also with non life threatening.
Marina is on the Illinois River. Later photo shows boat sunk at fuel dock which appears to be on the river.
I winter store in Seneca at this marina. That are good people and have a great bunch boaters there also. Just goes to show you can’t get complacent about the dangers of boating. I hope everyone comes out of this okay.
