Looking at a pristine 1979 Viking 43 aft cabin. Boat interior and exterior like new. 454 crusaders also in great shape with 800 hrs. I also like a 43 hatteras aft cabin with twin diesels 6-71 with 1600 hrs. The hatterras is in great shape but not as nice as Viking. Viking asking price is $110,000. Hatterras asking price is $139,000. Which is the better option? Thanks!
You need to determine your usage, if just a weekend ride for short distance then take the Viking, If your doing full time cruising then the diesel engines
For what it’s worth, I has gas before diesel and unless I downsize I’ll stay with diesel. Less worry about fumes, seems to start more easily than gas, lasts longer if well maintained, and great performance at either hull or planing speeds. And if you like to do your own maintenance they are easier to work on.
Give some thought to how much you are willing to pay for some added safety margin. Especially depending how you plan to use the boat. Diesel is much safer than gasoline. Diesel is certainly not a guaranteed safety but compared to gasoline it is much safer.
Ask your insurance agent, the diesel boat may have a lower premium. In case you wonder, I'm a ole Detroit guy, I could be biased but ask your ins agent.
