    You big timers with your walk through engine rooms don’t know what you’re missing! Check out my awesome 18” x 24” entrance into the dark side on my vessel. It’s a great way to stay in shape and practice your yoga at the same time. Something you don’t get from a walk in upright engine room . Shoe in photo for perspective.

    No , but is usually my check the oil way in …
    MBevins , my foot looks as big as Wilt the Stilt’s foot .
    It is an SOB at times .

    I’m like a rat ( as if you didn’t ready know!) , the hole I sprung out of at prison was 1/3 that size !

    One well-known and successful manufacturer built their 1st two models with excellent sea keeping ability. Then the clients, particularly Americans I believe, complained about the lack of headroom in the engine room. So they built new models, you know the wedding cake boats, with full stand-up head room. Wow! Success!

    Heaven forbid your stabilizers should fail.

    Everyone has their priorities.

    42’ Ocean Yachts Sunliner
    Aft cabin steps in photo, lift up.
    30” x 30” lift out center line hatch in salon is easier, just drop yourself in .
    Major work / access lift out two 4’ x 8’ hatches and one 30” x 8’ hatch opens up access to all mechanicals below.
    Only then I have an upright engine room!

    I like that …Wedding Cake boats…, lol.
    Really it’s not to bad . I scoot right through there. Entire salon floor comes up rather easily for major work.
    That being said , I did curse it yesterday. Hence my post.

    I own a Christ Craft Roamer will crawl space in the engine room. I have to say other than that access to the Cat 3028s was wonderful.

    That’s a nice boat. Chris craft back then sure knew their stuff.
    Excellent designer and builder.
    Yes our older boats always seem to take in the account of good access to the bilge , engine room . Safe walk around decks , all around hand rails , unrestricted visibility at the helm etc, etc.
    A lot of it has gone by the wayside in order to make the boat look like and feel like a house .
    Thought Roamers had GM 8v53s for power ?

    ohhhhh, I don’t miss seeing any oceans around to work on. Many models you have to unbolt the generator from the boat and rotate it just to change the raw water impeller!

    Luckily my generator is no problem to service and work on.
    It’s set immediately to the right of the steps in the photo against the bulkhead
    But all the “stuff” that needs checking and changing is forward and at one end of unit. Nothing needs to be moved, nor does an Aggravating sound shield .
    Love my Phasor pancake 8kw generator. 2/3 the size of the old Onan 7.5 kw with the Perkins motor.

    It was Simple , stupid to install. Which is a huge plus for old Cleanslate!
    No fancy boards or alarms etc. Runs
    quietly. It just makes electric. 800 hrs so far.
