Chris Gongriep Passes Away

Holland Jachtbouw recently released some bad news : “We are grateful for how Chris developed the yard and how he made it possible for others to share their passion for building yachts, meanwhile stimulating the possibility for yacht owners to create their own dream and to be able to show their passion and love for the sea. His passing away is a great loss for Holland Jachtbouw, his inspiration and hospitality will be missed throughout the industry and the international sailing scenes. We remember his smile, his passion and his creativity for how to make dreams come true.” Holland Jachtbouw will host a memorial ceremony 17th December at the yard’s facilities in Zaandam, followed by a private funeral. We offer our deepest condolences for the loss of a husband and father to Gongriep’s family.

Holland Jachtbouw is making a comeback. The yard collapsed after Chris Gongriep's death and many employees were out of work subsequently. However an entity purchased the yard last year and this will now see the reemergence of the Holland Jachtbouw yard. In the first instance VMG Yacht Builders who bought the yard in 2020 will establish two build sheds for construction and refit of yachts up to 60-meters.
