I saw this yacht listed for sale again on Yachtworld. According to the listing the owner had a lot of work done to her, from what I learned 3 years ago it was in very bad shape. I hope it is restored, I think it is one beautiful yacht.
When I was looking for a boat I "looked" at both the Jongerts (1987 78 footer and 1986 82 footer). The 78 footer was in close to Bristol condition when I last saw her in approximately 2018; it was obviously a well loved boat that was used often (not a dock Queen) and maintained without regard to ROI. The owner and I could just not come to terms, it remains one of my all time favorite boats. I went to survey on the 82 footer. Remains my "dream boat"; to this day I think "what if". The 82 needed some work and I didn't have the bandwidth at the time. Boat had HUGE potential. Both boats are, in my opinion, the epitome of what can be accomplished in a small boat / ship. EVERYTHING else I've seen pales in comparison to the quality that went into the original builds on both of these vessels. In summary, the 78 has received and appears to continue to receive exemplary care in keeping with the class of yacht that she is. The 82 needed some work, but also appears to be nearing the end to a restorative yard visit. Sorry for the long winded reply, just felt I was uniquely qualified to jump to the defense of a pair of fine ladies... https://www.yachtforums.com/threads/jongert-power-yachts-why-only-2-builds.23147/page-2#post-321974
Here are some sneak peaks of the 85 Jongert now named “Precious Cargo” as she nears the end of her refit. Pictured is her aft deck which had a custom bar added and a stairwell to the flybridge with a day head underneath.
I hope we will soon get to see more pictures. I do have a question though, when you bought the boat I imagine that is the amount your insurance company insured it for. I have often wondered if insurance companies will increase the value of the boat based on your upgrades. I have to admit, even though I restored 2 boats, I never checked on upgrading the value of the boats. I had a broker tell me one time he goes by the age of the boat to determine it value, he said buyers expect a boat to be in good mechanical, electrical, and any other system to be in working order. I have to admit that was the only time I talked to him I thought he didn't know what he was talking about. I say broker but I have to admit I never checked if he was the broker or sales agent, he showed me a Grand Banks in the Norfolk, VA area.
Am I correct in recalling that the 78 was named Grand Cru and was/is owned by a YF member who posted lovingly about her on several occasions? I seem also to recall a post to the effect that he would decide on something bigger and put Grand Cru on the market only to discover that nothing out there came even close to matching her build quality and a new build at that quality had become insanely expensive so he would withdraw her from sale. Much I suppose to the chagrin of would be buyers. Any pics I've seen of her show a what appears to be a superb little ship.
Answered my own question by using the search in a different way. Post is by Lenny on December 19, 2017.
Yes the bar is Fiberglass and teak. Here are a few more photos. For some reason it doesn’t let me upload some photos, I think it has to do with the file size.
