We often speculate on the cause of accidents but rarely hear when the report comes out. Andiamo was a 120’ Benetti that went up in flames and capsized at Miami’s island Gardens marina almost 2 years ago NTSB published its report. Lessons to be learned: if stateroom lights don’t work... don’t use candles If you use candles... don’t set them up near drapes If you setup candles near drapes, don’t leave them unattended especially if the fire detection system has been broken for 2 months! https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Reports/MAB2117.pdf
Unbelievable. Breathtaking stupidity. I'm sure they looked into the insurance fraud angle (right?). But, the sequence of events are so incredibly moronic, it's strains credulity that it wasn't intentionally moronic. It would be kinda/sorta understandable if it were a guest creating an open flame...on a yacht...in the cabin...next to stuff that burns. But, it was the CHIEF STEW who lit the candles. Like I said, unbelievable.
