If you bring a gun to the Bahamas declare it. If you don’t declare it, don’t attract attention and don’t threaten your crew https://www.facebook.com/225848767451024/posts/4143255315710330/?d=n
The charter boat's ad (a 95 foot Princess) claims it is the 'perfect way to distance yourself from reality' Apparently so.
Here ya go Carl: RBDF brings Boat Captain in for Boating Disturbance Defence Headquarters, 26 JUL. ‘21 (RBDF): A boat captain is being questioned by Police officials after his vessel was brought into the capital late Sunday evening by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force after he allegedly made threats to his crew. The RBDF Operations Centre received a call shortly before noon from a crewmember aboard a ninety-five-foot white Pleasure Craft, located west of Highbourne Cay, that the captain was behaving in an erratic manner towards the crew and passengers. RBDF assets were dispatched to investigate. On arrival to the named location, the RBDF boarding team immediately conducted investigations onboard the American registered vessel and discovered a 9-mm pistol along with a magazine and 10 live rounds. The weapon was not registered or declared to Bahamas Customs. The vessel and its crew were eventually escorted into the capital, and the captain and crew were handed over to the relevant authorities for further questioning. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is committed to guarding and protecting the territorial waters of The Bahamas. Plenty of safe ways to access facebook. Use separate emails and disclose no personal information. Don't stay signed in. Back to the topic, one must be respectful of the laws of anywhere they cruise. I hope the captain does face severe penalties. My guess, based on past cases, is a very severe fine, allowed to leave, and banned from returning. Guessing fine a minimum of $10k, likely $20k, potentially $50k. When all is said and done, the captain will regret this, but better be glad it was Bahamas. There are places he'd be on his way to prison for an extended time. In the Bahamas, a sizable fine is likely to let him avoid prison time although a few days will be served while coming up with the money.
Assuming they were on charter and the owner was not on board, I feel bad for the owner. You can be sure the foreign charter license will be cancelled and fines will be levied on the boat.
I would expect there to be other violations of both Bahamian and US laws. A captain who chooses to ignore laws and regulations doesn't normally stop at just one.
I know this is off-topic, but your statement about accessing Facebook is just not true. So, I can't let it stand without challenging it. Here's what I think is a more accurate statement from TECHNIPAGES, dated April 29, 2021: "Honestly speaking, the best way to stop Facebook from spying on you is to delete your account and quit the platform. Many users argue that tweaking the settings we talked about earlier doesn’t stop Facebook from collecting data on you. Some even say that you remain a commodity to them; the only difference is that you’ll no longer see what they’re tracking. The good news is that there are plenty of Facebook alternatives out there, such as MeWe, Diaspora, Minds, and so on. If you still want to be on social media, do your own research to see which alternative platforms suit your needs."
I should have added using a VPN, but then I'd advise that on all internet. However, in my case, the person they're tracking doesn't otherwise exist. I don't go to facebook to participate but simply to read things I'm pointed to.
It was a joke yr2030, we all know how much Carl hates Facebook, hence I had to poke him. (Keeps him alert, or maybe not. ) Duh..
I think he was directing you to the Delete FB thread. Yr2030 knows my position and has kept me in the loop on numerous related issues.
Back to the O P, We always have an inventory list with pictures, serial numbers, ammo count available while checking in. As live-a-boards, there were always guns on board. Many times this list was accepted but once, the officer did not believe we had a rifle with so low of a serial number. It was presented for inspection, explained it was an antique and short production run. And yes, very short serial number. Never was queried with any other questions. 40+ years ago, I learned the hard way, these guns must NEVER leave the boat while in Bahamian Waters. I will type that special word again here, slower for the reading impaired; NEVER ..
If this captain gets off with just a big fine and expulsion, he is lucky. An old friend of mine (now deceased) was nabbed by police in the Caribbean about 25 or 30 years ago for having an undeclared weapon aboard his 70 ft sailboat and he spent a year in jail there and his yacht was taken from him. I can't recall what island it was.
While not related to the original post, this case is just as amazing. Charter boat sinks at the dock, USCG orders the owner to submit to inspection before putting the boat back in service. The guy ignores the COTP order, takes 34 pax out on charter and the boat takes on water... incredible https://coastguardnews.com/coast-gu...t5ZBqB9VdSVogBNm6MCmLAp0MvVAe_I6INbN8XQrhOGX0
