Hatt A/C comment; A/C prices have gone out over the roof since Dometic shut down R417a/R22 support last fall. Inventorys are pretty thin on the new R410 stuff and delivery dates are weeks +. The better dealers may have some components in stock but not much. This mad house will cause strange pricing, subject to change near weekly. I do recommend split systems in a larger and nice ship. I remember working on a later Hatt 70. Master state room had two SCUs under the bed. I heard them running during the day. Can not imagine anybody sleeping thru that racket. If you are replacing multi units, consider a chilled system.
I doubt Hatteras ever installed SCUs except maybe in the early smallest boats, under 40’. Someone must have cheap’d out and installed them. Even back in 1970 they were using splits. I am so happy with my Flagship chillers....
No Stuff, Factory install, Dual Low Profile 16Kbtu Self Contained Units (SCUs) under the master bed. SMX panel in the closet. Forward cabins had factory SCUs also. Hatt 72MY with C32s. Not sure of the year built but do have the build number.
thanks. That helps a lot. The one is a five zone and then 3-4 single zones. Looks like have to stick with the split systems. Will check out flagsshio marina and those systems. Thansk.
That's a lot of zones...chillers get real efficient at that rate. I used Technicold. All 316 stainless. Really nice units. Very low power consumption. Wish I had put a smaller sacrificial unit first in line for those days when the system just cycles to keep the glycol cool without much demand from the air handlers. A 2 ton unit in first position would have been ideal ahead of the two 5's. The two 5's would last a lifetime in those conditions.
I have two Flagship 36k btu chillers on my 53 here in Miami from October to April, I run only on one chiller. In the summer, I do need to have both on except sometimes at night. Each uses about 15amps I prefer having identical chillers so that I still have some redundancy. In summer with one chiller, the boat is still usable
Thanks for the thanks for the feedback. If stay with split systems which vendor systems would you replace it with. I like the clean start but having hard time finding solid split systems I can do myself. Thanks
