Thank you both for your help. Called my good parts manager at J&T Mt Laurel NJ. He sent me the J&T drawings of the cooler. Sagara/ Lenco made it. His quote to me was “43 years at J&T , I never knew this cooler existed “ Nice ! J & T drawing calls it a “Supplementary Cooler”. Well, isn’t that special..... I already have fuel, oil, and gear coolers to worry about ! Now this extra one. All I know is one oil line goes into the turbo . Not sure where second oil line goes. Not thrilled with having to replace it. Old mechanic put too much muscle on one of the oil lines 3/8 port and the port cracked at the base where it meets the cooler. I stopped using him and just do the work myself.
I have reached out to all of the different cooler places. Will see what they come up with. It’s not a stock item from what I see. Problem is I need that 90 on the one end . Other wise I could use the straight stock unit.
x2 for Mr Cool. When I needed new gear oil coolers they came through for me. You may not get a 100% direct replacement but they can usually find something that is very close and maintains similar cooling characteristics and flow.
Lol! Thanks . I got emails to all of them ! Sent them out Friday evening and this morning I’ll wait to hear back next week. Lenco , Sen dure, Mr. Cool...the fella on the west coast mentioned above .
If it is just the oil line fitting why can’t you just have it fixed as CAPT Ralph mentioned? Those fittings are just welded or brazed on to the barrel. Any weld shop should be able to fix it. Easy enough to even remove a fitting and weld on a new one. I replaced mine as it was a gear oil cooler and the tube bundle inside failed and allowed sea water into my gear oil. If your tube bundle is fine should be able to fix it.
Yes I thought of that. BUT , how would I know the tube bundle inside is good ? With out cutting it open to examine it ? So to speak. It’s 40 years old ...I’ll change it out with new. It’s basically a stock item. Just need a 90 on the end. As you said , don’t need sea water in my earl ! Not a place or time to try and save money.... Do it right. Get me a new Jawn !
40 year old Cooler , CR. I want new . Those “fuel” lines we talked about on my lower block... are oil lines . Spooky looking but not leaking oil. Two come out one side of the block , then go into a tee then one goes to the other side of the block. I changed them out this weekend . Along with both belt driven Jabsco raw water pumps . I’ve been having a blast ! You should be here ! Fuel leak? I think it was my Racor drain on the bottom leaking . I have those black plastic drains . Not bronze petcocks. Something to change out yet again.
I wish you were here. I'm not allowed north of Charleston. You may need to ask your buds about those oil lines. Did they go to those cans you mentioned? Maybe went to a long removed by-pass oil filter. Hoses out and back into the block do not make any sense.
Here is one side , two come out I marked A the bigger hose , B the smaller one . A has a check valve on it and they go into at tee under motor. Then one small one goes to the block on the other side same place as B . Confused yet ?
There is a coffee can looking canister on both motors outward side with a 1-1/4” approximately size hose that come from the top of the Airsep. It has a small inline air filter on it -K &N I goes into the coffee can .
Sounds like a air silencer or oil catch can from the K&N filtered pressure relief valve. Could use a picture of this setup when you get to it? BTW, are your Detroit's standing up or leaning on their side (pancake install)?
OK will do it’s gonna be a few days I’m on my way home. Don’t know what kind of installation I have.? Both motors the blower’s face inward on the side; valve covers running straight down the center both motor starters face outward towards the hull.
Straight up like a 6 cly in your Chevy or Ford truck? Or leaning on it's side like a Mopar slant 6 in your ole Valiant car?
